THC

  • Psychoactive. (Experience of a “high”)
  • Used to alleviate symptoms of anxiety, depression, dysthymia, insomnia, and may be used to level mood in bipolar disorders.
  • Appetite enhancing.  May be used with patients who have difficulty with appetite or who are refusing food, such as with anorexia nervosa, alzheimer’s, and HIV/AIDS.
  • May be beneficial with patients experiencing autoimmune diseases and those who are experiencing inflammatory disorders. (Ulcerative colitis, arthritis, for example).  May reduce the need for steroidal and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs).
  • Treatment of nausea and vomiting in general, as well as that linked to chemotherapy in cancer patients.
  • Used in alleviating symptoms for those with movement disorders such as tourette’s syndrome, dystonia, tardive dyskinesia, ataxia and multiple sclerosis.
  • Pain control in a multitude of situations. (Menstrual pain, rheumatoid arthritis, HIV, cancer pain, chronic bowel inflammation, etc.)
  • Beneficial effect on different types of spasticity.
  • Use in seizure disorders in combination with the use of anti-convulsant medications.
  • Asthma bronchodilation.
  • Combats withdrawal symptoms associated with dependency on benzodiazepines, alcohol, and opiates.
  • Numerous other physical and psychiatric benefits continue to be researched in terms of THC cannabinoids.

CBD

  • Non-psychoactive. (Consumers do not get “high”)
  • Used for pain relief in a variety of situations including migraines, typical headaches, neuropathic pain, and multiple sclerosis, for example)
  • May have anti-psychotic effects for patients with schizophrenia and has been shown to have a similar pharmalogical profile as atypical antipsychotic drugs.
  • Anxiolytic (anti-anxiety) effects for use with panic and anxiety disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder and general social anxiety.
  • May have an inhibiting effect on cancer cell migration, invasion and adhesion.  CBD possesses anti-tumor properties in gliomas and has been used to treat leukemia.
  • Used to treat nausea and vomiting in various conditions and for treating the side effects of chemotherapy.
  • Up-and-coming implications for treatment-resistant epilepsy and some patients at higher doses report complete seizure freedom.
  • Its use has been associated with reduced insulitis and lower fasting insulin levels with patients who have diabetes.  May also protect against vascular damage caused by high glucose, inflammation, or type-2 diabetes.
  • Research continues to show additional benefits such as for effective use in improving mood, increasing alertness, and improving sleep.
